A Visit To Labadee In Haiti

by Ada Denis

The starting port for our Royal Caribbean cruise of the western Caribbean was Labadee, Hispaniola which is really a part of Haiti. This specific port is rented out to Royal Caribbean therefore entirely their cruiseships get here. Labadee is actually a peninsula with a a few beaches. Getting to land from the cruiseship is by tender.

There is a fine department for children with floating fake iceberg lettuces to mounting and water slides but they charge an admission fee. Floatation mattresses are also accessible for hire for those who just want to swim in the sea. There are also locals who help with taking beach chairs for you but they require hints. So affairs here are a money grabber. The cruiseship did have optional turns for snorkelling, parasailing, waverunner and kayaking tours but we thought that they were high-priced. Most passengers just spent the day loosing around the beaches.

The area just about Labadee was enjoyable decent but the beaches and lands themselves were fairly rocky so wearing sandals in the water would be advised. Royal Caribbean had directed a beach BBQ at an outdoor picnic facility which was fine but nothing special. There is a market there lying in of two constructions. One is a store where the souveniers and items have marked prices and the other building is like your regular market where locals try to hustle you for business. The locals interior the market were rough but polite. If you don’t mind haggle, you could get some pretty good deals but if you disapproval this type of aspiring aura, then you best head off the market except for the fixed price store.

One big conflict between this port compared to others is that since it is terrible well being used as a close beach, you will not be hassled by locals. The sellers coming around with drinks at the beach locations are really Royal Caribbean staff so if one wishes to buy a drink, the cruiseship passcard is all that is essential. As for cares about being in Haiti given the poverty and political situation, Labadee was not a trouble because the entire site is involved by a high steel fence. Other riders later told us that they wound off near the perimeter of the site and saw many Haitians along the fence begging for handouts and food. The fencing was mostly dark in the space from the main tourist areas.

We found Labadee in general to be a bit of a waste of time for us. The beaches were too rocky and we didn’t have access to inexpensive activities since everything was run by Royal Caribbean. If one wanted to just go lie on the beach all day and not much else, then Labadee would be a suitable place. For those who want to experience some culture, do water sports without going through the cruiseship, or shop duty free.

So the question remains then why Cyprus for renting a self catering villa? On the whole tradition dictates that we cook and prepare our own food as a family, so where better than a holiday villa with all the mod cons like there are in Cyprus. The majority of these villas are long term lets from between 70 days and 14 weeks.

Each apartment and self catering property in Cyprus is rated by 3 categories: A, B and C as compared to the hotels, which are rated by stars. This is because the self catering holiday villas and apartments offer accommodation with separate kitchenette & cooking facilities, separate living room and Shower/bath/W.C.

Baby Sitter Agency: What You Need To Know

by Rashel Dan

Are you looking for a baby sitter agency? Like many other families across the country, you may need a good baby sitter while you are out for work or for a break. Looking for an agency may be a better idea than looking for a sitter yourself. This doesn’t mean though that getting a good agency is easy in itself. Before you sign up with an agency, there are a few things that you would just have to expect.

Fees

Fee is one thing you have to consider, though. Sitter and nanny agencies do not charge cheap. This is especially true if you are looking for a stay at home sitter. Aside from membership and processing fees, you would also have to shell out for the placement fees. Some agencies will also require you to be the one to handle transportation expenses for your sitter or nanny. You should expect to spend more than a thousand dollars even before your sitter can work for you. An important aspect to remember about fees is to always ask your agency how much you need to pay exactly. Possible hidden and additional fees need to be openly discussed.

Services

How can a baby sitter agency help you? You may think that all agencies will provide you with everything. You may think that you only have to sit back, relax and wait for you nanny to come. This is not always the case. Some agencies serve better than others and have better services. What you need to do is to find out what an agency will do exactly and if their fees are really worth it.

One important thing they can do for you is a background check on the sitter. Ask your agency if they perform routine identity checks, reference verification, sex offense record check, driving history and criminal record investigation. It may also be in your best interest to inquire how an agency performs these checks. Ask what else is involved in the screening process and if you can interview the prospective sitter yourself.

Agency Reputation

You should never neglect agency reputation. Sometimes, this alone can give you a clue as to whether you are with a good agency or a bad one. You can check for agency reputation through a couple of possible sources. There are online forums where other parents may offer their opinions about certain agencies. There are also review and rating sites where agency services may commented upon at length. Parents also have the simple option of asking other parents for agency recommendations.

Check for associations. Some formal organizations have been set up specifically for sitters, nannies and agencies. Many of these professional organizations have lists of well-recommended agencies that you might want to try.

Guarantees

Don’t think that everything will be fine once you get your sitter. There is always the possibility that you will not be happy with your sitter. Some sitters may also have to terminate their contracts at an earlier time due to emergency reasons or family concerns. You should think of this as a very real possibility. Find out if your agency has any contingency measures for such events. Will your agency send you a replacement? Do you have to pay new fees for the replacement?

It really is a good idea to find a baby sitter agency. You should however, take good care in picking your agency.

by Roger Gordon

The extra money that one would save buying at cheaper price is worth it, especially if the low cost doesn’t affect the quality. Wouldn’t you want to buy at lower price if you had the choice? Even those without enough money can now enjoy laptops, thanks to the availability of cheap laptops today. Anyone that needs a laptop but has little money can get lots of cheap laptops that function as good as the expensive ones. The amount of memory and disk space available should be more than ample for the majority of users.

If you are one of such people and really need an affordable laptop, your first bet should be the Internet. The Internet should be your first port of call to find such affordable laptops. Caution is imperative nonetheless when shopping for items on the Internet; cheap laptops or any other item. As beneficial as the Internet is for most people in the world, there are also pitfalls to be avoided when shopping online.

Don’t go shopping for a cheap laptop online without spending the time to study the following: It will amaze you to know that there are dozens of very affordable laptops to be bought from eBay.com and other such online auctions, if one searches well enough. First, do your due diligence on the online auction seller before parting with your money; whether it’s eBay.com or not. First, take the time to research the credibility of the online auction seller before buying from them; whether they are those at eBay.com or not. Many auctions have a feedback facility to gauge the reliability of both buyers and sellers

There’s much more to the laptop than just the portability and beautiful appearance; take your time to find out if the RAM is high and if the disk space is big enough or not. What’s the RAM of the laptop you want to buy — this is a very important question you must ask and answer, before parting with your money.

Regarding the cost of the laptop, always ask for what the regular prices is… from people who are skilled in such matters. It’s important to know the usual cost of such laptops; and the best source is usually those who have bought in the past. Of course there are very cheap laptops out there, but ensure the one you buy has a warranty, whether refurbished or not. I don’t recommend you buying a refurbished laptop that’s doesn’t have some sort of warranty.

Conclusively, ensure that you compare prices between 2 points of sale before you go ahead and commit yourself, into buying a laptop. If one looks harder, he/she can always get a cheaper laptop. The Secret Life of Moms: Going Crazy or Staying Sane?

by Christy Cuellar-Wentz

New mothers rarely admit to the full extent of their stress level or to the difficult emotions they live with. After all, women with new babies are supposed to feel blissful, loving and grateful for the miracle of new life in their care, right?

Many women are scared to be seen as a “bad” or “crazy” mom. Without a guideline to tell what’s normal and what’s not, they fear their babies will be taken away and never ask for the help they need.

Mood swings, irritability, fatigue, persistent tearfulness, forgetfulness and anxiety are common symptoms in new mothers. The vast majority of birth mothers cope with some version of the “baby blues.” The good news is that these symptoms generally pass without any intervention within a couple of weeks. The postpartum mother’s’ body simply needs a little time to normalize the tremendous fluctuations in hormone levels after giving birth.

Unfortunately, the symptoms of “baby blues” don’t always pass on their own. They may last longer and be more severe, including stronger mood swings, lack of interest in the baby or self, lowered daily functioning, hopelessness, depression, feelings of inadequacy and vulnerability. It is estimated that anywhere from 1 in 5 to 1 in 10 postpartum women experience these symptoms of postpartum depression. Women with PPD may feel a little crazy, but they are still sane.

What if the level of intensity is ramped up? What if a new mom has unreasonable fears, panic attacks, obsessions about cleanliness and germs, or visions of something bad happening to the baby and not being able to do anything about it? This may indicate postpartum obsessive-compulsive disorder, a bit more severe than postpartum depression, but still in the postpartum mood disorder continuum, and still sane.

Well then, what about those “crazy” moms we hear about on the news? The ones who hear voices commanding them to hurt themselves or their babies? The ones who think their babies are demonic? What then?

This is the most severe end of the postpartum mood disorder spectrum, and where the break in sanity occurs. Fortunately, only 1 or 2 out of every thousand postpartum women will go through this disorder. Women with postpartum psychosis experience dangerious delusions, often in conjunction with visual and auditory hallucinations. They require immediate hospitalization in order to receive the necessary medical attention, and are not safe to care for their babies until the disorder is properly treated.

Here is a good rule of thumb: If a new mother is concerned about her well being and the well being of her child, if she is worried about the thoughts and emotions she experiences, she is still sane. Let’s take away the stigma of postpartum mood disorders and encourage new moms to be honest. All the symptoms described here are 100% treatable and help is available.

Tracking Down Responsible Lumber Suppliers

by Jerry Blackburn

Hardwood lumber is absolutely vital in order for any woodworking shop to survive. Whenever you are making a product out of wood you not only need tools but you need the wood itself! Wood is extremely beautiful and it is also strong and will last for a very long time if treated correctly. The material which you use for your project will depend on the type of product that you are creating.

Different Types of Hardwood Lumber

Walnut is one very popular type of lumber, it is a very rich and dark wood which looks very beautiful. It’s a unique wood and is very distinctive. It’s surprising that the color of the wood will change depending on the country which it was grown in. Walnut is well suited to furniture making, in particular in grandfather clocks.

Oak is a beautiful and popular hardwood which is used in a number of places around the house. It can be used as flooring as well as making furniture. Oak is a very nice wood which is durable and works well in a number of situations. It is commonly seen in kitchen cabinets and new show homes.

Another popular tree is the yellow poplar, this tree grows in the East United states and is one of the tallest hardwood trees. It is much cheaper than oak and walnut however it is still very high quality. It is commonly used for toys, sporting goods, musical instruments and of course furniture. Poplar is a very easy wood to work with.

Beech can be grown in a number of different countries, it is commonly used for flooring products, furniture, baskets and boxes among other products. Beech is very easy to stain or paint as they take the color very well.

Hardwood plywood is able to give the look of expensive hard wood without having to spend a fortune. This uses a thin slice of hardwood which is glued onto cheaper board. This type of wood is commonly used in bookcases. Oak plywood for example gives the look of oak without the expense.

Where should I buy Lumber?

Lumber isn’t hard to buy, you can find it in any normal home improvement store. You could also take a trip to a specialist lumber store such as lumber liquidators or Carter Lumber. You may be unable to purchase specialist types of wood in some home improvement stores. You may have to order wood like walnut or oak from these places as it is fairly expensive.

You can also buy types of lumber from the internet. Many people don’t like the idea of buying wood online because of the postage. It can also be difficult to assess the quality of the wood that you are buying, however you don’t need to worry that much. In most cases the wood will be graded.
