The biggest thing that those who train to be massage therapists face when they are close to completing their training is if they will actually be able to find a good massage therapy job after graduating.
As you will soon discover there are plenty of massage therapy jobs which one can undertake once training has been completed. Some therapists end up working in massage studios or at health spas or salons. Whilst others find themselves positions working in medical environments, such as at a doctor’s office or in a hospital. The other types of jobs available to massage therapists will depend on where they live for example some may find themselves working in hotels or at leisure resorts.
The best way of finding out what kinds of jobs are available in the area where you live is to talk to other massage therapists. But do not just limit yourself to those who are connected to the school that you attend, but other massage therapists who run businesses in your area as well. If you can talk to several different ones located in the town where you live along with those who work in different massage therapy jobs.
You may find as you look for a new job that there is a high demand for massage therapists in one area of the town where you live compared to another. So you will need to be prepared to travel to your work if you want to see your career as a massage therapist flourish. Also sometimes you may find it far easier to get a position working in a spa than you would say as a massage therapist in a medical setting.
Remember when you are talking to these massage therapists they will understand the position you are in as they were once in it themselves. Often these people are more than willing to answer some of the questions you have and may even offer you advice to get you the job that you want. Plus some may even provide you with a good lead for a job which you can apply for even if you have not got all the necessary experience as yet.
If you know the location where it is you want to work then start carrying out as much research on the place as you can. Along with speaking to the person who hires staff arrange if at all possible to speak with the massage therapists already working there. If you have not yet started training then find out from them where they did their training. Plus you need to find out exactly what it is they like and dislike about their job. Although the job may be ideally suited to their requirements, you may find that it is not the right one for you.
Most massage therapy schools will have programs in place to help their graduates find a massage therapy job after they graduate. Schools that have built a good reputation in the community often have companies asking them for graduates to hire right out of school. If you haven’t already chosen a school to attend for your training, be sure to take each school’s job assistance programs into consideration before you choose a school.
By keeping the above in mind, you will find that actually getting the right massage therapy job for you will be far less fraught. Also spend time looking carefully at the various jobs that you can do and weigh up the pros and cons before applying.
