Healing Acne Scars: 5 Proven Ways To Get Rid Of Your Acne Scars

by Cavyl Stewart

It seems like getting rid of your acne should be the end of the story. But, for many who have suffered from this condition, healing acne scars left behind is now their main concern.

Some acne scars will diminish over time, and eventually disappear altogether. But some scarring is permanent, and won’t go away on its own. If that’s the case for you, it might take more drastic measures to deal with your problem.

Here are some of the most common treatments used to treat the scarring acne can leave behind.

Soft Tissue Fillers

How do you feel about needles? Well, with this technique, and injections are made under the skin, and scars are filled with either collagen, or excess fat that’s been retrieved from another part of your body. The result is less noticeable acne scars for about 6 to 12 weeks. Then, you might choose to have the treatment again.

Collagen injections will usually cost around $300 to $400 per treatment. Fat injections are a little more expensive, costing about $1,000 per treatment.

Microdermabrasion

This is an exfoliation technique in which surface skin cells are removed, and the look of acne scars is diminished. Microdermabrasion is a very fast procedure which can be performed in your dermatologist’s office in less than an hour. There’s also no recovery time.

The microdermabrasion procedure takes about 30 minutes to an hour. And there is no real recovery time, so you won’t be wearing bandages out of the dermatologist’s office. However, you’ll probably need several treatments to see real results.

You can expect to pay $200 to $300 per microdermabrasion treatment.

Dermabrasion

During a dermabrasion treatment, a rotating wire brush is used to remove the top layer of the skin, along with surface acne scars. Deeper acne scars will also be less noticeable.

Because it’s among the more drastic procedures, dermabrasion is usually only performed on those with pretty severe acne scarring.

Dermabrasion can cost anywhere from $1,000 to $1,500.

Laser Resurfacing

With laser resurfacing, the outer layer of the skin is destroyed by a laser beam. The laser also heats the layer of skin underneath. As that layer of skin heals, new skin forms. The result is fewer, and less noticeable, scars.

You can expect to pay about $2,000 to $2,500 for laser resurfacing.

Chemical Peels

Those with mild acne scarring will probably see good results from chemical peels, which can make scars less prominent.

A chemical peel, a product that contains acid, is applied to your face, and then removed after a certain period of time. When the chemical peel is removed, the dead upper layers of your skin are removed with it.

A chemical peel can cost between $100 and $300, and it might take 3 to 6 treatments before you see real results.

If you are looking for a way of healing acne scars, you have plenty of options. And a lot will depend on how much money you want to spend.
