Acne - it’s a bane of adolescence and beauty spoiler for the adults. Resulting from clogged skin pores, acne is considered to be a common medical condition. But, for someone who suffers from acne problems, it’s more than just a condition - it’s an embarrassment, annoyance and obstacle to their every day lives.
Apart from ruining smooth skin, acne can also be a sign of more serious health problems. Either way, most people who have acne problems seek a permanent cure for it by spending lots of money. Acne can be any of the following: clogged pores, whiteheads, blackheads, pustules, pimples or cysts. The main cause for acne is excessive oil production from the skin’s oil glands.
The skin is protected by the oil glands, but there are times when the skin cells block the oil from being released to surface layers, which causes the oil to accumulate under the surface. This unreleased oil acts as a culture environment for the skin’s natural bacteria, which multiples and causes the surrounding skin to inflame. This is how acne occurs.
Contrary to popular belief, acne is not hereditary and nor is it caused by any food, dirt or sweat, stress, hormones or cosmetics. These are just myths and don’t play any direct role in causing acne. However, pressure from helmets, collars, straps etc, drugs containing bromides, iodides and steroids and exposure to certain industrial chemicals can cause or worsen acne. Some people have more oilier skins and it may be hormonal, but there are no real hard facts to prove it.
When to treat acne is completely up to the person who has it. If it becomes extreme and is causing difficulty in a person’s life, then treatment should be sought. Even if your acne is not extreme, but it is constant and never really seems to clear up, you might want to consider some treatment.
Curing acne naturally and permanently requires a few basic essential lifestyle changes. Remembering the three steps on how acne is caused, the most important thing is to start with eradicating them - unclog pores, destroy the bacteria and reduce oil build up.
The ideal way to avoid acne is to sleep eight hours each night, drink eight glasses of water and have a balanced, healthy diet. But, people are too busy and have hectic schedules, so the next best thing is to resort to natural methods for reducing and then permanently curing acne.
Proper skin care is essential for opening pores and no matter what anyone says, there’s no magical cure for acne. Cleansing, exfoliating and moisturising every day is the key to healthy skin. Leafy greens and other antioxidant foods are great to improve your immune system and fight bacterial inflammations. You mustn’t try to reduce your skin oil level by messing with your metabolism or hormone levels, as it can cause other health issues. The best way to reduce it is by concentrating on removing the skin’s surface oil.
