Website Traffic: Why Targeting is Important

by Jill Brennan

People are constantly looking for ways to get more website traffic; however, unless they’re getting targeted website traffic, they’re just spinning their wheels. Is your good-looking website attracting the right kind of traffic? Are you reaching the right audience?

The only way your site can be successful is if the visitors find your information useful. For example, consider browsing for books on Amazon.com: when you buy a book, the site gives you suggestions for other books in that category. The company figures that if you bought one book on a specific subject, others on similar subjects might interest you. You’ve just been targeted. While targeted website traffic won’t give you guaranteed traffic, it will increase your chances of reaching the correct audience.

Targeted website traffic by no means guarantees traffic. Targeting only increases your chances of hitting the right audience. You don’t want to randomly lure people to your site and hope for the best. That’s a waste of time.

Although they don’t really hurt anything by being there, you don’t want to waste time courting them, just hoping they will like what they see and become a fan or a customer. It is up to you to take advantage of all the marketing knowledge out there, just waiting for you use.

The starting point for building traffic is to look at the keywords that you’re using on your site and then see what keywords visitors are using to search. Words are the starting point for any internet search. If someone wanted to find soft dice they could hang from the rear view mirro in their car then they will type related words into a search engine.

This is why you’ll often hear internet marketers talking about ‘getting inside the head of the prospect’. What would they type into a search engine in order to find fuzzy dice? Would it be “car dice”, “furry dice”, “soft hanging dice”? Or some other variation that you’ve never thought of? Picking the right keywords is about improving your chances of success.

So what else are you selling along with your fuzzy hanging rearview mirror car dice? You can’t get targeted website traffic if you don’t know who you’re targeting, so figure out just what kind of site you have. Should car dice should be sold at a car accessories site, a weird gifts site, or a kitsch site? They should be sold on a site that has other merchandise that will appeal to the fuzzy dice people-like fuzzy steering wheel covers, or even animal print clothing, if it’s a retro shop. That approach will get you more website traffic.

Getting people to visit your site and buy what you’re selling is similar to playing the stock market: You can make some educated guesses, but it’s all a risk and a gamble. That doesn’t mean you should ignore trying to improve your odds, though — targeted website traffic will definitely help. When you tempt people who want what you have, they’ll buy.

4 Strategies to Boost Your Website Traffic

by D. Hatcher

The number one thing most Internet marketers need is traffic. Without traffic how would you make any sales? It doesn’t matter how great your website is. You could have the best headline and ad copy in the world, but without a sufficient amount of traffic you will not do very well. This article is going to reveal simple strategies that can be put into effect immediately. These are proven methods for getting targeted traffic flowing to your site.

Write articles. This is an often overlooked technique that does more than just bring traffic to you. It places you in the position to show your expertise and build trust in your prospects’ minds. The value and the implications of this particular concept is often underestimated. People have to trust you or value your opinion if they are going to order from you. People will pass you by if they don’t first feel comfortable with you. Submitting articles is a great way to “break the ice”.

Here is what to do. Write a series of articles relating to your particular market. Submit two articles per week to major article sites such as ezinearticles.com or goarticles.com. At the bottom of the article is an area that is referred to as the “resource” area. You can have a signature (or bio) in that area. You can include information about your website and include a link to your webpage. If people value the information you offer, they will click the link and be taken to your website. This is why it is extremely important to provide useful, high quality information. People will only want to visit your website if you give them something of value first.

Exchange links with popular sites. This method works on two levels. First of all, you will receive traffic through the your links posted on other sites. Also, as more and more websites link to yours, your search engine rankings naturally begin to rise. This can be a major source of traffic. Showing up on the first page of results in the major search engines can bring you tens of thousands of visitors per month.

Here is how to get links to your site. Find sites that are similar in theme to your website. Inquire about the possibility of doing a link exchange with you. In your communications with them, paste a link to their page that you are displaying on your website. Now the ball is in their court. They will do one of two things, either accept your offer or not. If they refuse to do an exchange with you remove their link from your site.

Use Pay Per Click advertising. Although Pay Per Click costs money, it can be a very good way to drive targeted traffic to your site. If you select your keywords with care and make proper bidding choices it can be a very cost effective and useful tool to add to your marketing plan. Google Adwords and Overture are the two top Pay Per Click companies. However, Yahoo and MSN offer pay per click advertising as well, often for less cost per click than the “big guys.” To get the most out of Pay Per Click advertising you need to be armed with at least a bit of knowledge on the subject. I suggest buying a book or ebook on the in’s and out’s of pay per click advertising before starting a campaign.

Submit videos to video sites. Videos are one of the best ways to get yourself “found” on the internet. Major league videos can also be made with the most basic equipment. For instance, you can use a small digital camera with a movie mode or an inexpensive webcam. Processing your movie can be done using a free video editing program that is part of your Windows operating system.

Here is what to do. Make a video about your product, business or opportunity. Upload your video to Youtube and give it a catchy title and description based on the content. Writing a good title and description is what drives or attracts an audience to your video. For instance, make sure to do some keyword research and use those keywords or “tags” that are geared for the audience that you want to reach. I could go on about keywords and titles but that is a subject for another article. But for now, you can simply learn from what others are doing. Do a search on Youtube for videos that deal with the same subject matter. Look at the descriptions and tags that are on the most highly viewed videos and “learn” from them!

While any one of the traffic generation strategies above can make a major difference, I suggest using all of them combined. This will give you the most traffic possible in the shortest amount of time. The more effort you put into the tactics provided in this article the more they will work for you.

Where The Money Is Online And How To Get It

by John Anghelache

The first three steps to Internet business success are: (1) choose the right market… (2) choose the right product… and… (3) choose the right marketing process.

List building is the next step in the process.

Everything comes down to having a big list of responsive people. That’s where the money is. Therefore, building your list should be your number one priority.

Traffic generation and list building are the cornerstones of Internet business success. You need to get people to your website. Then you need to persuade those people to give you their email address. This is how it’s done…

The first thing to understand is that list building is a mindset. You should think of it as the primary marketing objective of your Internet business. Do everything to get more people on the list.

Next, create a “hook” that compels people to join your list. The hook is usually some valuable information product you give away for free. You put up a simple web page promoting that freebie. To get it people have to give you their email address. Fair exchange if you ask me.

STEP THREE: Drive traffic to this lead capture page almost exclusively. Of course, how you drive traffic is also critical. Let’s talk about traffic generation methods.

My favorite ones include: article marketing… ezine advertising… and… reciprocal joint ventures.

Okay. So let’s tackle article marketing. What you do is write up a simple article that is several hundred words long. No more than about 700 words. Include a resource box with a link to your website. People who click on that link will be taken to your lead capture site.

Submit at least one article per week to the different article directories. You can do a simple search online to find article submission services and software. It’s best to use these instead of trying manual submissions.

Most ezine take advertising. They are like online newsletters so a lot of them get all their revenue from advertisers. You can place either classified text ads or send out solo emails.

Since you are building a list, use ezine ads to get people to the opt in page. That’s the whole point. The more people you get there the more will opt in and the bigger the list will grow.

Joint ventures are a little more tricky. The idea is to find people in your market with lists who are not direct competitors. Then ask them to promote your free offer to their list. And, of course, you’ll do the same for them.

Obviously, your list has to be as big or bigger than the joint venture partner’s to make this “MO” work. As your list grows joint venture opportunities will pop up all over the place.

Here’s the key to success: Every single day work on traffic generation and adding people to your list. Nothing is more important than this. So focus on it.

The next article will talk about taking profits out of your list.

rss feeds as part of your one-way link building strategy

by KC Kudra

One Way Link Building Plan Using RSS Feeds to Build Link Popularity

The most effective link building strategies will utilize RSS Feeds to build your link popularity. RSS stands for Real Simple Syndication and is simply an easy way to mass distribute and publish material on the web. You can easily build RSS feeds into your blog that incorporate your links to blog pages.

The more times your RSS feed shows up on other sites the more links there will be to your site. Each of these links is like a tiny endorsement for your site and adds points to your link popularity. The good thing now a days are most major blogging platforms like Blogger.com and WordPress a major independent open source blog script include RSS capability. Another way if your blogging system doesn’t have RSS capability you can use a program like (RSS Builder is freeware) or another good one is FeedForAll.

This is one of the greatest ways to syndicate your content to other sites. Building your sites link popularity couldn’t be any easier with built in RSS capability on your site. These one-way backlinks from these many different sites help build your websites link popularity, as each is in essence a vote of approval for your site.

Be Careful When Setting Your RSS or it Might Not Validate

WordPress for example also has plug-ins, which make it simple for users to add your RSS feed to their favorite RSS reader. You can find many low cost or free RSS readers and most services like My Yahoo and iGoogle along with My MSN already have this capability built in.

Services like My MSN, My Yahoo, and iGoogle have RSS readers built into them and you can simply add feeds to your homepage. You need to be careful when making your blog post titles, as services like My MSN are very picky and adhere to very strict RSS validation. What this means to you as a blog owner is be very careful of things like apostrophes and quotation marks as these don’t validate under strict RSS and your feeds will not load into My MSN.

This can get tricky when you have a title that really screams out for an apostrophe such as “Today’s Breaking News” great for human consumption but the validator will hiccup at the apostrophe in the word “today’s.” You’ll want to avoid these kinds of things even if it is a compelling title I would suggest rewording it to say “Hot News Today” and avoid the whole headache entirely.

Secrets of Using a Blog Pinging Service Effectively

There is a really easy way to almost automatically increase your blogs link popularity by the effective use of a blog pinging service. Now this is not to say that you don’t still have to worry about things like writing compelling content of course you will if you want them to stick around or come back. You will also want to make sure you are updating your blog often to maximize this strategy. If you are taking care of these things then a blog pinging service can do a lot to help out your blog or website get noticed by building backlinks to it.

When choosing a pinging service to use for promoting your blog or website you want to make sure you can ping multiple services from one website. Now of course it is possible to go to each blog search engine, RSS feed aggregator or directory and ping them individually but this is really not necessary. Also this will take a tremendous amount of time in comparison to using a reliable blog pinging services. You want to make sure the service you pick allows you to do dozens of these from their site though.

A side note we find it works better to ping each service individual this sounds difficult but once you generally fill in the form it is just a matter of selecting the feed service you wish to ping each time and click the ping button. Every service has their pros and cons but the time you save and the links you will build are priceless. A word of caution ping each service only once per post or you could get your site listed as a Spammer. In conclusion you should make it part of your posting schedule to ping every post too.
