A Visit To Labadee In Haiti

by Ada Denis

The starting port for our Royal Caribbean cruise of the western Caribbean was Labadee, Hispaniola which is really a part of Haiti. This specific port is rented out to Royal Caribbean therefore entirely their cruiseships get here. Labadee is actually a peninsula with a a few beaches. Getting to land from the cruiseship is by tender.

There is a fine department for children with floating fake iceberg lettuces to mounting and water slides but they charge an admission fee. Floatation mattresses are also accessible for hire for those who just want to swim in the sea. There are also locals who help with taking beach chairs for you but they require hints. So affairs here are a money grabber. The cruiseship did have optional turns for snorkelling, parasailing, waverunner and kayaking tours but we thought that they were high-priced. Most passengers just spent the day loosing around the beaches.

The area just about Labadee was enjoyable decent but the beaches and lands themselves were fairly rocky so wearing sandals in the water would be advised. Royal Caribbean had directed a beach BBQ at an outdoor picnic facility which was fine but nothing special. There is a market there lying in of two constructions. One is a store where the souveniers and items have marked prices and the other building is like your regular market where locals try to hustle you for business. The locals interior the market were rough but polite. If you don’t mind haggle, you could get some pretty good deals but if you disapproval this type of aspiring aura, then you best head off the market except for the fixed price store.

One big conflict between this port compared to others is that since it is terrible well being used as a close beach, you will not be hassled by locals. The sellers coming around with drinks at the beach locations are really Royal Caribbean staff so if one wishes to buy a drink, the cruiseship passcard is all that is essential. As for cares about being in Haiti given the poverty and political situation, Labadee was not a trouble because the entire site is involved by a high steel fence. Other riders later told us that they wound off near the perimeter of the site and saw many Haitians along the fence begging for handouts and food. The fencing was mostly dark in the space from the main tourist areas.

We found Labadee in general to be a bit of a waste of time for us. The beaches were too rocky and we didn’t have access to inexpensive activities since everything was run by Royal Caribbean. If one wanted to just go lie on the beach all day and not much else, then Labadee would be a suitable place. For those who want to experience some culture, do water sports without going through the cruiseship, or shop duty free.

Baby Sitter Agency: What You Need To Know

by Rashel Dan

Are you looking for a baby sitter agency? Like many other families across the country, you may need a good baby sitter while you are out for work or for a break. Looking for an agency may be a better idea than looking for a sitter yourself. This doesn’t mean though that getting a good agency is easy in itself. Before you sign up with an agency, there are a few things that you would just have to expect.

Fees

Fee is one thing you have to consider, though. Sitter and nanny agencies do not charge cheap. This is especially true if you are looking for a stay at home sitter. Aside from membership and processing fees, you would also have to shell out for the placement fees. Some agencies will also require you to be the one to handle transportation expenses for your sitter or nanny. You should expect to spend more than a thousand dollars even before your sitter can work for you. An important aspect to remember about fees is to always ask your agency how much you need to pay exactly. Possible hidden and additional fees need to be openly discussed.

Services

How can a baby sitter agency help you? You may think that all agencies will provide you with everything. You may think that you only have to sit back, relax and wait for you nanny to come. This is not always the case. Some agencies serve better than others and have better services. What you need to do is to find out what an agency will do exactly and if their fees are really worth it.

One important thing they can do for you is a background check on the sitter. Ask your agency if they perform routine identity checks, reference verification, sex offense record check, driving history and criminal record investigation. It may also be in your best interest to inquire how an agency performs these checks. Ask what else is involved in the screening process and if you can interview the prospective sitter yourself.

Agency Reputation

You should never neglect agency reputation. Sometimes, this alone can give you a clue as to whether you are with a good agency or a bad one. You can check for agency reputation through a couple of possible sources. There are online forums where other parents may offer their opinions about certain agencies. There are also review and rating sites where agency services may commented upon at length. Parents also have the simple option of asking other parents for agency recommendations.

Check for associations. Some formal organizations have been set up specifically for sitters, nannies and agencies. Many of these professional organizations have lists of well-recommended agencies that you might want to try.

Guarantees

Don’t think that everything will be fine once you get your sitter. There is always the possibility that you will not be happy with your sitter. Some sitters may also have to terminate their contracts at an earlier time due to emergency reasons or family concerns. You should think of this as a very real possibility. Find out if your agency has any contingency measures for such events. Will your agency send you a replacement? Do you have to pay new fees for the replacement?

It really is a good idea to find a baby sitter agency. You should however, take good care in picking your agency.

How to Decide When to Water Your Plants

by Keith Markensen

Many gardeners have difficulty deciding how often their plants should be watered. The amount of water plants need varies greatly and depends on the rate at which the plant absorbs water.

Plants which are actively growing require more water than those that are not currently growing. Those which have many roots filling the pot require more water to maintain their growth than ones which are smaller and not as well established.

The time of year also affects the water needs of plants. During the growing season, which usually lasts from April until October, most plants require more water than they use in the rest of the year. However, there are some exceptions, so be sure you understand your plant’s growing season when you’re deciding how much to water them.

You should inspect your plants daily to determine whether it is time for watering. Some plants will need watering every day, while others will only need watering every few days.

One way to tell when your plant needs watering is to feel the soil. Potted plants should be watered when the soil is moderately dry, and should be given enough water to soak through to the drainage hole. Many roots are located far down into the pot, so it is important that the water reaches all the way down to them.

It may be hard to tell when the soil is dry enough to require watering. One test is to tap the pot about halfway down with your knuckles or a wooden hammer. If this results in a light hollow sound, you should water the plant. If it results in a dull noise, the soil is wet enough. However, if the soil is not packed down, this test will not work.

When watering your plant, the water should be room temperature. You can use either rain water or tap water. It is actually quite easy to overwater your plants, so you should be extremely careful when watering them. If you do overwater, the tips of your plants may become yellow or brown. If this happens, stop watering the plant until the soil dries out, and poke the soil all over with a pointed sick to aerate it, helping the soil dry quickly. If the soil grows moss or algae due to overwatering, you need to remove this coating. If you want your plants to be safe for overwatering it is good to use an Automatic plant watering system.

Before you water your houseplants, you should set the pots in saucers or bowls to catch the drainage. Use glazed containers if you plan to set the plants on woodwork or other items which would be damaged by the moisture. You can also set smaller potted plants in hanging baskets or larger plants to catch the excess water.

Many plants need fertilizer in addition to the water. These especially include plants which are in their growing season, generally May to August. Bulb plants may require fertilizer at other times of the year, however. You can use liquid fertilizer, or tablets which are to be mixed with water. This should not be overlooked if you want your plants to thrive.
