10 Killer Ways To Sell Your Back-End Products

by Kim and Charles Petty

A back-end product is a product you attempt to sell your customers after they have recently purchased a related product from your business.

If you’re not trying to sell back-end products to your customers, you’re making a big mistake. It is easier to sell to existing customers than it is to sell to new ones who don’t trust your business yet.

Below are ten killer strategies you can use to sell your back-end products to your existing customers:

1. When you ship people the first product they bought, insert a flyer or brochure for your back-end product in the package.

2. Give customers a free subscription to a customers only e-zine when they buy your product. You could include your ad for your back-end product in each issue.

3. Send your customers greeting cards on holidays or on their birthday. Include a small advertisement inside the card for your back-end product.

4. After people order your first product from your web site, take them to a “thank you” web page and include your back-end product ad on that page.

5. Send customers a free surprise gift after they order your first product. You could attach another ad with the free gift for your back-end product.

6. If you’re selling an electronic product, like an ebook, include your ad for your back-end product somewhere inside the electronic product.

7. Give your customers a free membership into your “customers only” private site. You could include your ad for your back-end product somewhere inside the private site.

8. Contact your customers by phone and ask them if they were happy with their purchase. You could tell them about your back-end product.

9. Send your customers a thank you letter by mail or e-mail. You could mention your back-end product somewhere on the letter.

10. Ask your customers if they want to be updated in the future when you have new product offers. You could have them sign up to receive e-mail or snail mail updates.

Your business will have a greater chance of surviving when you attempt to sell back-end products to your existing customers.

by Kay Petronelli

It has been proven that people love to get free things. When you think of promotional materials that are used at a sporting event or other type of event you probably think of the basic hat, t-shirts, etc.

Businesses that purchase apparel as promotional items will be greatly effective in marketing their products. Having their company name embossed on things like t-shirts and hats will give a lot of visual exposure to their business name or product.

A t-shirt is one of the most inexpensive and trendy promotional items on the market today. They are considered inexpensive because a company can buy the shirts in bulk, therefore saving money, from places like Fruit of the Loom and Hanes and then imprint their logo or company name.

For only $5.00 per shirt or less, if you bought in bulk, you can see how you can’t go wrong with choosing such an effective promotional item.

Hats with a company logo embossed on them are very good marketing items. They make a significant contribution to a company’s marketing campaign. Just think of all the free advertising that a business can get when many different people are wearing their hats. A company investing in a nice styled hat with their logo or company name on them will only have to spend under $5.00 per hat.

Many companies are trying to be more unique and will get kitchen apparel that people can use on a daily basis. These include oven mittens, aprons and towels. These are great because people will use them in their home every day so they will remeber your business every day. It is important that you make your kitchen apparel look attractive so they will want to use them on a daily basis.

One of the last types of apparel that I’ll mention here is athletic apparel. People who exercise often will need athletic apparel and if you give it away to them for free they will be very happy. All you have to do is put your company logo on the apparel and they will be a walking advertisement for you. You can put your logo or company name on headbands and wristbands. These are relatively cheap and will cost less than $2.00 a piece.

As you can see, there are many benefits for companies to use apparel as promotional products. They not only give your company a continuous stream of free advertising but your product or business name will be recognized everywhere. Maybe the next time somebody wants to buy a particular item it could be your company that they choose.

Are Pop-Ups Something To Be Worried About?

by Paul Wilcox

Pop-ups are the annoying ads and other things on the internet that open on your monitor as you’re surfing the web. Their main goal is to either get you to visit a certain website or to collect your name and email address for marketing purposes.

The pop-ups that come on your screen as a web page loads are usually caused by something called JavaScript. This is a simple programming language that can be integrated into the HTML used to build web sites.

Sometimes these pop-ups can be useful. It may ask you for your login information or something else to log you into the website, or it might give you more information on something without taking you away from the page you’re looking at. Music sites, for example, often use a pop-up for their players. These reasons are all legitimate uses and are quite a bit more acceptable than some of the advertising pop-ups.

JavaScript can control the size of the window and the elements displayed. The status bar or the menus can be hidden, making it impossible to navigate away from the pop-up. Your only options are to close the window using the ‘x’ box in the top right corner or to click on the ad and be taken to the advertiser’s web site. Annoying, huh?

Some pop-up windows are either poorly programmed or intentionally malicious. The JavaScript will create multiple windows, and when one of those windows is closed more windows will open. The only way out of this endless cycle is to close the browser.

A recent type of pop-up is created using software called Flash and can even be made to follow your mouse around the screen as you move it.

In addition to pop-ups created with JavaScript and Flash, ‘adware’ can create pop-up ads according to the content on a web page. Adware is usually just advertising-supported software which displays ads when you use that program. Sometimes, however, ‘adware’ refers to small hidden programs that deliver targeted advertising to your web browser. These programs may look for certain keywords on a web page and generate advertisements based on those words.

Another type of pop-up is the pop under. Rather than appearing on top of web pages they’re hidden until you close the browser window. These are a little bit less intrusive than pop-ups but still an unwanted nuisance. There’s no end to the cleverness of advertisers!

It’s the nuisance factor of pop-ups that has encouraged almost every web browser designer to include some kind of pop-up killer in their program. The latest versions of all the major browsers have integrated pop-up killers.

You can also get specialized pop-up killer software that will catch most of the pop-ups that the browsers miss, giving you an almost 100% pop-up free internet experience.
