Rap music or Hip Hop when first came out and started getting popular, everyone thought it was just something the kids are liking at the present and it’s going to go away. This was because it was the first time that the vocals were basically rhymes and it was like someone was just reading them out. I understand why people could think it was going to be just a fad.
This ’struggle’ gave birth to groups like N.W.A and Bodycount who later the media started calling ‘gangster rappers’. They tried to stop gangsta rap but as I mentioned in my other articles, music can’t be stopped. It spread like wildfire in the American youth and surprisingly in the ‘white’ suburbs and soon became the thing for all kids in the U.S.A. You didn’t have to be black to relate to the oppression going on in the ghettos because the struggle was painted so perfectly with words in most of these songs that everyone could feel it.
Now rap music and hip was simply unstoppable. Rap stars were now selling out shows and concerts and traveling like the rock star use to. They had millions of fans all over in different major cities and were making millions my going gold and platinum every time a CD was dropped. Rap music became an household name and even little kids were getting into it. Naturally the parents didn’t like it but that is what happened when rock music came out and stuff.
Now it seemed like rap music was reaching it’s peak and along came two of the greatest artist in the history of this genre. Tupac Shakur and the Notorious B.I.G also known as Christopher Wallace. These guys took the entire genre and turned it upside down. Each one bringing in their own different style. Tupac alone has influenced more people through his music than any rapper around and the Notorious B.I.G just had an incredible natural flow that took the entire industry by storm.
People have been saying that same thing about hip hop since it started and this criticism isn’t going away any time soon. What I can guarantee though is their is another artist who is on his way who is going to take hip hop to the next level. Yes Lil Wayne is doing his thing but at the same time their someone out there, I can feel it who is going to take it all to the next level.
