Acupuncture, The Alternative Medicine

by Dana Drewer

Acupuncture is an ancient chinese method of healing. It has been around for over 2000 years, and is still being used, now, as an accepted alternative medical practice. This wasn’t always so. In 1972 then President Nixon made a trip to China and acupuncture was “Discovered” by the western world and news of its great uses was becoming known.

Acupuncture is based on the 12 invisible lines of energy that run through the body. These lines of energy or meridians, allow the flow of energy throughout the body. If a line should become blocked, they are believed to cause illnesses such as a disease.

When these meridians or lines become blocked the flow of chE can not be acheived as natural designed in the body. People with this knowledge called acupuncturists would insert small stainless steel needles into specific sensors in the body. This would unclog the flow of chE.

This is known as “needle piercing”. Acupuncture stimulates these points in the body and can include additional things such as heat, friction, suction and electromagnetic energy to improve blood circulation and healing.

There is an endless list of ways acupuncture can be used to relieve pain, aid in weight loss, ease arthritis pain and help in the field of fertility.

Medical science has only begun to accept acupuncture as a true medical field. Over the last 40 years acupuncture has begun to have more believers in the west than previously thought. The Chinese with their centuries of education and skill at acupuncture behind them have always known that it is a necessary and useful therapy.

Today acupuncture is a recognized medical field and there are licensed professionals that can aid in your medical care. Some patients have stated that with the use of acupuncture, they could reduce the amount of pain medication they required. This is a great development for the medical community, to be able to reduce medications for their patients, which will reduce side effects that their patients need to worry about.

As acupuncture is now a recognized medical field, acupuncturist will need to be licensed in the state they practice. When looking for a licensed acupuncturist, you should make sure they are licensed with the local medical association.

This addition to the therapy prescribed can greatly enhance your ability to recover quicker.
