Fishing for the Mighty Tarpon

by Tom Gibson

Like a lot of fight in your fish? Well, the might Tarpon is just the fish for you. We are talking about a monster fish that can come in at over 200 pounds and give you a workout you will not soon forget.

The Tarpon is the king of game fish. It is not a big fish. It is a huge fish. The world record catch is only a few pounds short of 300 and up to 8 feet in length. This is a fish that will latch on to your line and run and run and run some more.

The Tarpon seems like it would be some form of shark or monstrosity. In truth, it is actually a member of the herring family. A very big member. They are particularly oily, so only are claimed as a game fish for the most part.

Deoxygenated areas of the ocean are becoming a big problem because fish cannot live in them. Well, the Tarpon does not mind them. It simply surfaces and breathes directly from the air instead of through the water. A buff fish, indeed.

The tarpon is a mighty beast, but you can catch it with just about any tackle. The only key is to go with something heavy duty. A Tarpon will run and run while leaving you gasping. Make sure your gear can handle it.

As big as it is, it is probably not surprising to learn the Tarpon will snack on just about anything. Ask for advice from the local bait shop in your area, but Tarpon generally are known to like shrimp, squid and some smaller crab species.

Ah, but there is something really special about the Tarpon. The habitat of the Tarpon is along the shoreline. It stays close in, which means it has limited routes to escape in. This results in lots of running and spectacular jumping.

Even better, the habitat of the Tarpon means everyone from experts to beginners can have a go at them. You just have to walk down to the water and start having at it. Some even fish from kayaks now.

We all dream of epic fights with big, aggressive fish. Most of us cannot afford the cost or time to fly to exotic fishing destinations. This makes the Tarpon one of the great game fish for us regular anglers.

Install Garage Door Trim

by Lou Gibson

Whether you just want to sell your home or make it look nice, the devil is in the details. Garage door trim is one of those details that lend themselves to a quality and complete home. The number of tools you need are surprisingly few.

Picking trim is really a matter of personal taste, so I will leave that to you. Once you have it, the next step is to measure your garage door. You need the height on both end and length across the bottom and top.

Guess what is next? Yep, you need to measure out pieces of the trim equivalent to the lengths of your garage door. Now use a miter to cut 45 degree angles on each end. We are trying to create a rectangle frame of your garage door.

Okay, open the garage door half way and tack the pieces on. Make sure you have straight, snug fits. Now nail the trim in six inch sections until you complete a full circle of the garage door and the trim is solidly attached.

The trim is going to be open to the elements, so you need to protect the nails. Apply a light waterproof putty to all the nail holes. You can then paint the trim if you like. Many prefer to use a color that matches the rest of the trim on their home.

The garage door trim is a canvas for painting. Even though it is a tiny visual element, it has a big impact. If you want to break up a bland exterior, paint it a bold contrasting color. If you want it to blend in, stick with the color of the home.

In fact, you can try this approach on many of the doors of your home. You may not want to put sealant trim, but even the door frame can be a canvas. Painting it a unique color can make your entire home look completely different.

There are some complex projects you can undertake on a home, but replacing the garage door trim really is not one. You can easily get it done in a few hours on the weekend and reward yourself by relaxing the rest of the time.

Expert Witnesses - Testimony for Money

by Anthony Armand

We all know that DNA plays a critical role in a criminal trial thanks to the things we’ve learned watching court room dramas on television. Nobody, however, really talks about the witnesses testifying on such evidence.

A lawsuit is basically an argument. One side argues one position while the other side argues an opposing one. The court sets the rules in regard to the exact issues to be covered. Ah, but what happens if the issues are complex?

Expert witnesses play a subtle, but important role in litigation. They are used to explain the complex issues that arise in such a way as to make the information understandable to the average person sitting in a jury. Let’s take a closer look.

Let’s assume we have a case involving a traffic accident. The sides might argue who was at fault. Experts might be called to testify in regard to the speed of the cars at the time of the accident, which had right of way and so on.

While experts testify in civil cases, you probably know them more by their roles in criminal matters. Specifically, they testify as to cause of death and the all important DNA tests and results that often sink or save defendants.

While experts play critical roles in lawsuits of all types, they don’t always have the impact you might expect. Why? Well, experts tend to cancel each other out if lawyers aren’t careful. One case in particular showed how this can happen.

The battle of experts in the Simpson trial was classic. The prosecution experts testified Simpson’s DNA was on various evidence, but the defense testified nobody could say how it got there. The jury ignored the DNA and acquitted him.

In more and more cases, a battle of the expert is what ultimately occurs. The jury ends up either believing one or just ignoring both sides. This somewhat defeats the purpose of having experts if you think about it.

At the end of the day, the expert witness is still an important player in the lawsuit process. Testimony prior to trial can even lead to resolutions early on. If it doesn’t, jurors are still smart enough to figure out what is going on.

A Different Aspect of Rock Climbing - Bouldering

by Aazdak Alisimo

If you undertake rock climbing, there is no denying you are going to be high up in the air sooner or later. This means you need equipment, partners and a pretty big commitment. Bouldering offers a different way to climb with little risk yet massive challenge.

What is bouldering? It is the act of climbing on a boulder or similar structure that is only 10 to 15 feet or so. The goal isn’t so much to go up as it is to improve your technique by trying a variety of routes and different moves.

Bouldering returns you to the basics of climbing. A climb is basically a problem to be solved. With bouldering, that problem can be defined by you. You can climb straight up the boulder or meander in different directions to try new techniques.

For some climbers, bouldering has overtaken wall climbing as their favorite. Why? Well, an boulder with an interesting face and angles can offer up 10, 20 or more routes. You can almost develop a harmony with the rock and it keeps things interesting.

Once you get into bouldering, there is a tendence to forget about safety. How banged up can you get if you are only 8 feet up? You would be surprised. Broken arms and ankles happen. Always use a crash pad to cush the brunt of falls.

The weight your body has to carry in the air is the same at 5 feet or 50. Just because your bouldering, it doesn’t mean you aren’t going to put strain on your body. Warm up to avoid pulling muscles and stessing your joints.

An offshoot of bouldering is buildering. Walk by a fine dining establishment that serves adult beverages and has climbers as clientele and you will see a strange thing. There are people climbing various wall surfaces outside the establishment.

I’ll admit buildering can be a good bit of fun. That being said, a fall can lead to disastrous results since the ground is often concrete. The police in just about every city, town and county also seem to have a universally negative view on the practice. Enough said.

Back to bouldering. Overall, it is my favorite climbing option. Why? You can do it at the spur of the moment, you can really push your skill, the same boulder offers a lot over variations and it is very safe.

Online Cooking References

by Aazdak Alisimo

You can often learn what you need to know by using technology that’s been around for years - such as magazines, books and TV. But sometimes, it would be a bit easier to use newer technology, such as the Internet, to get the job done more efficiently. Such is the case in learning how to cook.

Books are a good way to learn a lot about cooking - they can contain a lot of recipes in a small amount of space, as well as information about ingredients, how to store and care for specific kitchen equipment and more. But most cookbooks are not illustrated, and leave much to the imagination.

For pictures, we can always turn to TV. TV shows about cooking often show just how to pull together a recipe, and how to use certain types of kitchen equipment as well. But you can’t print a recipe on TV, and TV can’t give you the detailed amounts needed to really complete a recipe like a book can.

Websites are the best of both worlds. They are the Internet’s solution to both television and books, as you can display both text and videos on websites. The video files can be lengthy or short, and they can be high quality - showing just as much as a television show right on a website.

Websites can also display tons of text - in fact, the basis of most websites is still text. This means that the same detailed instructions and recipes found in a cookbook can be displayed right alongside the videos of cooking. This makes the whole process more convenient than showing the two separately.

Online cooking sites are also searchable, making them perfect for cooks who know what sort of recipe they want - they can just search the site for the name of the recipe without having to flip through several cookbooks looking for a specific page. This is particularly useful with obscure recipes.

Beginning cooks can also be excited about cooking websites. There are many different webpages that are written just for them. These pages can include such helpful tools as step by step guides to cooking that are both written in text and filmed for video, making them very useful.

You have many different choices when learning how to cook, and online resources should definitely be a part of your learning to cook experience, no matter how else you learn your cooking skills. Combining online sites with classes or books will make sure you learn to cook well.

deciding on a facelift

by Aazdak Alisimo

If you’ve watched any plastic surgery shows, you know that one of the most popular plastic surgery procedures performed in the world today on either men or women is the facelift. Used to erase years of aging from faces, this popular procedure is performed everyday on many different people.

The facelift has been around a long time, over 100 years! The first facelift was performed by Eugene Hollander in 1901, and its popularity has just kept growing since that time. The facelift joins liposuction and breast augmentation in the top three most popular plastic surgery procedures.

While most people think of facelifts as being only for females, many men also look into getting facelifts to erase years of aging off of their faces as well. Both sexes want to look younger by going under the knife - which today can mean endoscopy, with smaller incisions than a regular facelift.

Without endoscopy, the typical facelift is a standard incision facelift. This uses a lengthy incision around the ears and hairline, which can be used to peel back the skin and pull up excess tissues and connective matter and make them taut, removing wrinkles from the skin.

There are other types of facelift incisions, which may be a bit smaller, but the process is essentially the same. Skin and tissues are pulled tightly and excess is snipped away, then sutured up with either staples or sutures. These cuts will heal into scars, which are usually small and not too noticeable.

A facelift is serious business - and is considered to be a major surgery by most if not all doctors. It must be performed outside the office in a hospital, or at the very least in a surgery center. A facelift will require a patient to be under general anesthesia for the duration of the procedure.

Recovery time varies for patients who have facelifts - those who need to have a larger incision and need to have more tissue cut away and pulled up to correct deeper wrinkles and more aging may require more recovery time than those with a less complex surgery.

Don’t choose to get a facelift without doing a lot of research. There are many different ways to make yourself look younger - including other plastic surgery procedures that require less invasive techniques. Your plastic surgeon will be sure to let you know the right thing for you.

1. Alaska. There is little doubt it is one of the last great wildlife spots in the world. Well south of Anchorage, the Bristol Bay area offers a bevy of fish ranging from salmon to trout, pike and more. Hit the various waterways dumping into the bay during the summer.

2. The Bahamas offer a bevy of fishing. When it comes to fly fishing, the flats off of North Andros Island are the best. The fish in the spotlight here is the bonefish. Fishing is good year around, but each shore of the island has a season so ask around.

3. New Zealand is one of the more beautiful countries in the world and the South Island is known to have some excellent fly fishing. Browns and rainbows are on the menu. It is a very informal place, so ask around or buy a local guide to find the best spots.

4. Argentina has much more to offer than epic steaks. Sea run brown trouts upwards of 20 pounds are found on the Rio Grande. The season runs from Christmas to March. Hmmmmaybe it’s time to take a different kind of winter vacation!

5. Western Colorado has a lot to offer and Gunnison River is it for fly fishing. Gunnison Gorge is the spot with towering rock cliffs and rainbows and trout. You’ll need a guide to get there as you have to access it by trail or boat. It is worth it.

Well, there you have it. One man’s opinion on the top spots for anglers to dream about. Getting to these locations actually isn’t that expensive, so start saving now for the trip of your life.
