You Can Be A Profitable Poker player

by Johnny Knoxer

Some people use poker as a means to make extra money. Many people play poker just for the fun and excitement of the game. No matter in which avenue you use poker, there are certain behaviors a person needs to understand in order to win the game.

A person who wishes to win money while playing poker must always pay attention to every detail. From your own hand to the movements of the other players to the community cards, a player must always watch every portion of the game. Poker is an extremely unpredictable game in itself, so the player needs to always be on his guard.

Having a tell makes a player predictable and you will soon be able to predict their moves in advance. If this is so, the player has a tell which you can discover by watching their movements. Unfortunately, some players only play using a few different plays.

Your repertoire will be an advantage to your game if you know several different plays. Two of the plays you can use to help you win are slow playing and aggressive betting. Using these two plays alone will not always guarantee a win, but they will help in advancing your game beyond the level of novice.

The amount of chips that the other players have is an important part of aggressive betting. The aggressive player forces the players to bet more on a certain hand than they normally would have. On the other hand, it is a good bet that a person who is betting aggressively does not have a good hand.

The two cards dealt to you facedown, the hole cards, are an important factor in playing poker. Knowing if these cards are good enough to carry your hand, like an ace that has the same suit as the other card in your hole, will help you in deciding if you should bet. Remember, it is not necessarily a guarantee to win if you have just an ace in your hole.

If you do not have a matching pair of cards after the flop has been dealt, it is a good bet to fold your cards. If the other players seem timid in their bets, there is a good chance that they are waiting for the turn and the river cards to redeem their hand. This is a good time to become an aggressive bettor.

Trying to get that one card that is missing for a straight is almost impossible. There is less than a 1% chance of getting a straight in a 52 card deck. Never keep your hand if you are expecting a straight with nothing, not even an ace, to fall back on.

However, since the chances of getting a pair are high, bet carefully when you have a pair. Unless there is a possibility of a flush in the window, a pair will win the hand. Of course, if that pair is actually in the window and not in your hole, then everyone has the same chance of winning.

The most important aspect of the game of poker is bluffing. If you are a good bluffer, you can make everyone think you have a high-ranking hand when you have absolutely nothing at all. Because it could become your tell, be careful with bluffing and don’t do it too often.

In your playing, remember to be patient and inconsistent. You will be able to win even without a high-ranking hand if you do not develop a tell. You will go far if you become an excellent observer and pay attention to each player.
